Newborns are my jam. To focus on being a newborn photographer is a huge goal for me (right behind birth photography anyway). So when I know someone having a baby, I start hinting around. Lucky for me, today’s mama was all about it. Even luckier, her little guy was uber cooperative as well!
Meet baby boy Keegan. (Cute name right?) This little guy gave his mom a really hard time during birth. And the medical drama didn’t end there. But he clearly decided to make up for it by being a totally chill newborn. At first he was hesitant to sleep but I didn’t mind because he was a well behaved awake baby. He loved to be swaddled and really enjoyed the space heater. For every little cry he started to do, he gave up moments later and enjoyed the warmth.
I knew we were off to a good start when he looked at me with a kindness and wisdom beyond his years. Peaceful and knowing. In this first picture I can really see his mom’s side of the family (friends of both mine and my husband’s for years). A family full of warmth, kindness, and understanding. Intelligent academically and emotionally. This little face is the embodiment of my sentiments toward them as a whole. I expect great things from this kiddo.
Despite many yawns and moments of confusion, he was not feeling the sleep. So I passed him to mama for a few minutes to seal the deal…
Success! He was asleep more or less for about 2 hours after this. And I used that time! We spent awhile on the posing pillow with a tone-on-tone grey color scheme that mom picked out. As he slept he kept smirking and I got it on camera a few times.
We also did another prop-based series involving the woodsy theme of Keegan’s nursery. His mom told me that it was moose themed with black and red plaid. So I came prepared with the base pieces and some adorably tiny fur boots I found. She added elements from his room to complete the look in some shots. How cute is this little mountain man?
Before I knew it, about 3 hours had passed with the family and I wanted to head out and let them enjoy their baby. I know I treasured my time with him.
