One of my favorite tiny humans from sessions past came back to see me again and he wasn’t so tiny any more! Austin had a beautiful newborn session with his mom, dad, and big brother. (Some of my favorite images of motherly love came from his session because his mom, Carle, stares at her boys with incredible fondness.) I was extra excited to see them again and with a lovingly homemade cake in hand to boot.
Mom requested a lumberjack cake smash or camping cake smash theme and provided me with some inspiration photos. Fortunately, I had nearly all of the theme appropriate props already in my arsenal. After thrifting some Christmas trees and creating a makeshift tent out of PVC, I knew the setup was still missing something. So I painted the backdrop with the trees and night sky to really sell the camping feel. I was excited to finally use the gigantic pine cones I had purchased on a whim a few months before and re-purposed the ax from my husband’s Tin Man costume. I was positively in love with the setup but it all came together when Austin got into his little lumberjack outfit and dug into that cake. His mama made a beautiful “naked” cake with cream cheese frosting that filled my house with the most heavenly smell. I was half tempted to fight the little birthday boy for a handful! =P
My favorite part was when he got weary of smashing and decided to lie down on set and eat more cake off his tummy like an otter. We made a tremendous mess and laughed a lot but the fun wasn’t over yet. It was bubble bath time. The guest of honor was in bubbly heaven playing with pine cones and making faces at his mom. He seriously makes the best faces! Don’t believe me…take a look:
